ARTIST STATMENT

I've always collected things whether it be raggedy Ann dolls inherited from my mother, quilts made by my grandma, or plastic figures of different media I've enjoyed growing up. Each figure, plush, and toy occupy a lot of room in my living space, similar to the importance I feel for them as representations of my interests and myself. My paintings explore the relationship between consumer culture and traditional craft, using mass-produced collectibles like plush and figures and compare them to the quilted pattern backgrounds as a nod to comfort and personal/human touch. By contrasting these elements, the work seeks to raise questions about the value we place on material objects and the significance of creating a collection.
I aim to emphasize the importance of these objects as meaningful representations of our personal identities and histories and invites viewers to reflect on their relationships with material possessions and consider how our collections shape our individual and collective identities.
